If one believes that thatch is caused by grass clippings, then I am sure that one is 10 years back the latest research on the subject. In fact excessive build-up of grass clippings can lead to a problem. It is because it will deprive the soil of oxygen and prevent the water from seeping into the roots of the grass.



But thatch is altogether a different problem. It is caused precisely by two main reasons- poor watering practices and frequent use off fertilizers.
